RTD moves forward with scaled-back upgrades in Denver’s Five Points
The modified plan would still tackle important Americans with Disabilities Act and safety upgrades at light rail stations and remove and replace sections of rail and pavement along the line, RTD staffers said. The Regional Transportation District (RTD) is moving forward with some upgrades on the L-Line in Denver's Five Points area, but not full reconstruction. The move comes as city officials are working on a plan to improve transit along the Welton Street corridor in Five Points. RTD staffers presented a “modified” plan to fix and upgrade parts of the L.Line at a Board of Directors meeting, which was supported by community leaders and Five Points residents. However, some directors expressed reservations about waiting to fully reconstruct the L.-Line, as RTD already has approved funding for the Downtown Rail Reconstruction Project. The modified plan would still address important issues such as the Americans with Disabilities Act and safety upgrades at light rail stations and remove and replace sections of rail and pavement along the line.
