Former head of Colorado Department of Human Services will be paid for nearly 2 months after resignation

Gov. Jared Polis’ announcement of Michelle Barnes’ resignation did not mention the settlement or the fact that she will continue to be paid through Dec. 2. Former head of the Colorado Department of Human Services, Michelle Barnes, remains on paid leave through early December after reaching a settlement with the governor’s office to avoid litigation. The state in January hired an outside firm to investigate complaints within the department, which centered on deputy executive director Katy Morrison.
